Mountain Scrambling
What is mountain scrambling? Generally speaking it is that grey area that lies between hill walking and full on rock climbing. Scrambles are often the most exciting and interesting way to ascend or descend a mountain.
Scrambling is not for the faint hearted as it involves climbing steep and exposed mountain ridges with the minimum of protection. A good head for heights is essential as is the ability to move confidently on exposed but technically straight forward terrain. Scrambles are graded from 1 to 3.
Grade 1 involves steep and often exposed ground; it is unlikely to require a rope but good route choice and navigation are important.
Grade 2 requires the use of a rope and some basic rock climbing skills to negotiate steeper ridges and gullies.
Grade 3 ground requires good route finding and navigation skills. The ground is very steep and often not that straight forward so rope and rock climbing gear are employed to safe guard your passage.
